Real Article Marketing
Scott F. Geld
I hate it when con-artists use the same words we use to mean something completely different.
I was recently asked how I ended up with over 66,000 web sites referencing my name on Google alone.
Here's the search of my name with quotes:
Google Results for Scott F. Geld
I achieved those results with article marketing. Not only have I achieved over 66,000 mentions of my name on 66,000+ different web pages, I have also achieved that number and many, many more mentions of several different pen names that I use... all with article marketing.
I wrote articles and submitted them to publications to be printed. That's all I did.
But the follow-up questions I have received in the last several years have been very disturbing. The follow-up questions have been things like this:
1. Do you submit to ezinearticles.com?
2. Do you use article spinning software?
3. Do you use Article Robot Pro Submit Software? (insert the name of dozens of weird software here)
4. How much do you pay to have articles written? Do you prefer elance or odesk?
5. Do you use Article Marketer Service Pro (or whatever article marketing service you want to fill in the blank with)?
NO! NO! NO!... and NOOOOOOO!
What the hell are you babbling about? I said I do article marketing, not some kind of scam article spinning robot pro spam crap.
Article Marketing!
Here is what that used to mean before the scam artists redefined it into some kind of abhorrent (and extremely ineffective) frankenstein.
1. Buy Writers Market. It is the bible of article marketing. Get the latest year (although 2010 really sucks, so I actually do still use 2009.
2. Find a publication with more than a million in circulation and paying more than $1 per word in the subject area of your expertise.
3. Write a query to the editor of the publications you found suggesting an article idea for something you would like to share your knowledge about. Include samples or clips if you have them.
4. Get the contract. Sign it. Keep your deadline. Write the article and submit it. An article is 1,500 to 3,000 words by definition (or whatever the writer's guidelines say in the Writer's Market).
5. Include a link to your web-site in the bio. Include a reason to visit your web-site.
6. Deposit the check. It will be for $1,000-$6,000 for a couple of days of work. You aren't doing this for free you know.
7. Do this every week for a few years. I spend about four hours a week with article marketing. Some spend up to a day or two. Some even make it their main work to do nothing but artcle marketing. They call themselves freelance writers.
The rest is automatic. Publications have online versions. Others will mention your articles. Some will get reprint rights if you sold full rights to the publication. Your name will just spread on the Internet like wildfire. It just happens. You don't have to do anything to make it happen.
One of my favorite article marketers is Joseph Banks. Most of his work is under various pen names, so you can't just search for Joseph Banks and find it, but he has been published in EVERY major magazine on just about every topic you can imagine. He also has more books published in more genres than you can possibly imagine. You have probably read at least ten of his articles in various magazines while reading magazines in your dentist's waiting room.
And I'm fairly certain you have read at least one of his books too. He has written famous books in just about every fiction and non-fiction genre.
He just started using the Internet Business Box to teach article marketing. I learned from him years ago. He is my article marketing mentor. Now he can be your article marketing mentor too.
